Bio of an Artist and Curator
Having worked in various executive administrative positions for many years in law, finance and design, Samantha Levin started transitioning into the Fine Arts in 2001 after receiving a BA from the School of Visual Arts.
Ms. Levin has worked for many individuals and organizations in the arts including Laurie Anderson, Charles Morrow, Peter Terezakis and Carlo Maria Mariani. A multi-media artist initially, she began curating exhibitions with various grassroots art groups and artists in 2007. Eventually, she began organizing solo and group exhibitions in 2008 through her own company, Anagnorisis Fine Arts.
Currently involved in many projects, Ms. Levin continues to gain exposure for the artists with whom she has become affiliated. She has worked with established contemporary artists such as Travis Louie, Carrie Ann Baade, Dan Estabrook, Roger Ballen, Cam de Leon and Christopher Conte amongst others. She has also helped launch the careers of Buddy Nestor, Ina Jang and Caitlin Hackett.
Armed with both spectacular organizational skills and a strong creative spirit as well as the ability to see the big picture, Ms. Levin is forging a yet untrodden path in the arts aiming to find new respect for what works are currently considered to be too narrative and non-conceptual by much of the fine arts cognoscenti.
In 2010 she was awarded a grant from the ISE Cultural Foundation via their Program for Emerging Curators for a group exhibition that explores a newly dubbed genre of the arts, the Neo-Grotesque. She is also serving as the New York Ambassador to the city of Lisbon’s annual arts Festival, Pop Up Lisboa and frequently collaborates with the founders of the Brooklyn Art Project.
Ms. Levin lives and works in New York City.
